"If you want to get the inside oil on New Zealand employment (and social!) conditions, forget the Department of Labour and newspapers, read this blog!"

TV addicts take note!

Disgusting..... Revolting... Reprehensible... Sickening....

Nope; none of them quite fit - they don't quite convey the level of my disgust.

I am, of course, talking about TVNZ's use of a "psychic" to help out the parents of the missing 2yo in West Auckland. The NZ Herald today ran a poll which showed that some 30% of people think a psychic might be really able to help.

This is because many people claim that psychics are real and really do talk to dead people.

Well, the time has now come for the kid gloves to come off. If you believe psychics are anything but a malicious and disgusting fraud, then you're a fucking idiot.

Now, that might seem a little harsh to what may first seem a harmless belief, but the facts are very very plain:

Not once, ever, anywhere in the world has a psychic solved a police case, or even come up with any evidence at all of use to investigating police.

Never, get it - not even once.

In all the thousands - maybe hundreds of thousands - of times that psychics have tried to help in a crime, not even on one occasion has a psychic been able to find actual evidence.

They are vile frauds who prey on the weak, the grieving, the misguided and the gullible.

I accept that for grieving families, no straw is too feeble to clutch at, and they bear no responsibility for looking to the supernatural. The burden of guilt lies with the psychics and the media companies which promote them. They all know that the whole industry is pure fraud, but continue to pretend it's real because the low-down scumbags who perpetrate the fraud are incapable of making a real living, so continue to prey on the vulnerable.

Quite why western governments are too weak to outlaw this fraud is hard to fathom, but England has made a good start and has actually introduced legislation which enables these fraudulent scum to be prosecuted for making claims they cannot prove.
